Understanding the Texas Webfile Number
What a Webfile number is
A Webfile number is the Texas Comptroller’s electronic filing access code for a taxpayer account. For franchise tax, the number is usually an 8-character code that begins with XT followed by six digits, such as XT123456.
Where to find it
You can usually find it on a notice or filing reminder from the Texas Comptroller. For franchise tax, it is often printed in the upper right corner of the notice or reminder, and sometimes on delinquent notices as well.
If you do not have the notice, the Comptroller says you can contact them and verify the business information to retrieve it.
What they usually begin with
Texas Webfile numbers vary by tax type, but for franchise tax they usually begin with XT. Other prefixes you may see are RT for sales and use tax and other non-franchise taxes, and FQ for the franchise tax questionnaire.
